Pricing

Each project I’ve worked on presents it’s own unique challenges and as such there are two ways that I price things: hourly and contractually. It’s really up to the client which method they prefer. Each is slightly different and can offer advantages and disadvantages. The rates I have listed here are general guidelines that I use and as such are subject to change.

GET A FREE SONG MIXED OR 30 SECONDS OF SOUND DESIGN FOR YOUR FILM FOR FREE

In working in music and film, I understand that a lot of people out there are concerned with making the right decision when it comes to their music and films. In that spirit, I’ll mix a song for free or do 30 seconds of sound design for a piece of your film for free just so that you can see if what I can provide is the right fit for you.

MUSIC

Tracking

  • $50/hr plus studio rental costs and fees

Mixing

  • 1-3 songs $300/song or $70/hour
  • 4-7 songs $275/song or $60/hour
  • 5-9 songs $250/song or $55/hour
  • 10+ songs $200/song or $50/hour
  • Mixing is based on an average of 4-5 hours of time spent on each song.

Revisions

  • Each song gets 3 revisions after which I revert to $60/hr for each subsequent revision.

Vocal Pitch Correction Using Melodyne

  • $90/hr. Pitch correction is an art in and of itself and to make it sound natural can be quite labor intensive. It also requires that I have special software to handle it.

Mastering

-Mastering no EQ, compression, attaching ISRC codes and meta data entry.

  • 1-3 songs $100/song or $70/hour
  • 4-7 songs $90/song or $60/hour
  • 5-9 songs $80/song or $55/hour
  • 10+ songs $75/song or $50/hour

-Revisions

  • Each song gets 3 revisions after which I revert to $60/hr for each subsequent revision.

-Mastering with EQ, compression, attaching ISRC codes and meta data entry.

  • 1-3 songs $125/song or $75/hour
  • 4-7 songs $115/song or $65/hour
  • 5-9 songs $105/song or $60/hour
  • 10+ songs $95/song or $55/hour

-Revisions

  • Each song gets 3 revisions after which I revert to $60/hr for each subsequent revision.

Mastering is based on an average of 1-2 hours of time spent on each song.

Producing

  • $35/hr or contractual rate

Transcription

  • $50/hr

Billing

  • Billing takes place in half hour increments and I require half of the estimated cost up front as a down payment. Completed files or projects will only be delivered when the balance of a bill is paid in full.

ADR, SOUND DESIGN FIELD MIXING AND FOLEY

Sound for film has vastly different requirements than music does. As such my rates for film are drastically different. Film is often done on a contractual basis as hourly rates add up fast.

ADR or Voice Over Recording

  • $150/hr or contractual rate

Dialog Editing

  • $100/hr or contractual rate

Sound Design

  • $150/hr, $550/finished minute or contractual rate

Foley

  • $150/hr, $550/finished minute or contractual rate

Field Recording

  • $100/hour, $700/day (8 hours) or contractual rate

Sound Mixer

  • $200/hour, $1,300/day (8 hours) or contractual rate

Boom Operator

  • $100/hour, $700/day (8 hours) or contractual rate

Script Spotting Session

  • $100/hour, $700/day (8 hours) or contractual rate

CONTRACTUAL RATES

  • Contractual rates are rates that are decided on for an entire project before any work actually starts. Before I can give an accurate quote for a contract, I have to actually sit down and look at an individual project. If you have a project where you want to negotiate a contract, please feel free to contact me to set up a consultation.

One Comment

  1. I have around 3 or 4 thousand projects (
songs) mostly instramental. Some really intense. Looking at the file structure on one PC is about 18k tracks and growing. Ide hate to die and just have the hard drives wiped and other media tossed out.
